Hutan, a huge bakery café by Onam Reservoir in Namyangju, with our baby in tow
Hutan, a huge bakery café by Onam Reservoir in Namyangju, with our 120-day-old
Hi, this is JoyStoria.
A little while ago my wife and I took our 120-day-old daughter to Hutan in Namyangju. I've been a dad for four months now, and I never expected a café trip to turn into this much of a project. Can we park, will the stroller fit, is there a nursing room, where do we go if she cries. That's what you check first. So this time we looked for a big place from the start and picked Hutan, right in front of Onam Reservoir. It's a three-story bakery café that opened in November 2024, and the first floor also serves pizza, pasta and steak. We went on a weekday and had lunch there too. Short answer: yes, you can bring a baby. It's a bit on the pricey side, but it earns it. My wife and I both agreed on the food. For café food, this is good.
'Location'
📍 Driving is the easy way
The address is 81 Palhyeon-ro, Onam-eup, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do. From eastern Seoul it's about an hour by car. The nearest subway is Onam Station on Line 4, but it's not walking distance, so you'll need a taxi from there. For friends visiting Korea without a car, I'll be plain: this one is hard to recommend.
☑ How to get there
Put "후탄" or "팔현로 81" into Naver Map or Kakao Map.
Head toward Onam Reservoir and you'll see a big brick building. I thought it was a corporate headquarters at first.
Parking is in front of the building, beside it, and underground.
☑ Nearby
Onam Reservoir is right behind the building. There's a trail around it, good for a loop after lunch.

'Outside'
🏢 The parking lot is the first surprise
The size hits you the moment you arrive. A brick building three floors high, with trees and a water channel in the front yard. The parking lot is seriously big. There's surface parking in front and beside the building, and a separate underground lot. It was a weekday lunchtime and fairly full, but we didn't have to circle for a spot. There are EV chargers too. If you drive an EV, you can charge while you eat. Plenty of room to unfold the stroller. Lots of reviews say the lot fills up and the order line gets long on weekends.

'Inside'
🌴 First floor: a café inside a greenhouse
Walk in and the ceiling is high and glass, so light pours down. The middle of the first floor is open all the way up, with palm trees, a fountain and even a little stream. It's more resort lobby than café. The order counter and bakery display are on the first floor, and next to the elevator there's a door to an outdoor terrace. It was a weekday and still busy. Lots of families with strollers. We weren't the only ones with a baby, which was a relief.

🍽 The far-end seats on the first floor are for diners only
The far end of the first floor is reserved for people having a meal. Only those who ordered a dining menu item like pizza or pasta can sit there. If you're just having coffee, you need to sit somewhere else. Some people sit down without knowing and get moved, so keep it in mind. Since it's diners only, it was much calmer than the main hall.

🌴 Second floor: the view from above

We took the elevator up and settled on the second floor. From the railing you can see the whole first floor below. A white light installation hangs from the ceiling over the palm trees, and it looks different from up here than from below. Photos come out better from the second floor than the first. The reservoir side is one full wall of glass. Sit at a window table and you get the green water and the mountain across it. It was a clear day when we went, so the water looked even deeper. Each window table has an arched lamp. I imagine it's a different mood at night. Railing seats face the greenhouse, window seats face the reservoir, so there's something to look at wherever you sit. The windows fill up first though. Reservoir-view seats are contested even on weekdays.
'With a baby'
🍼 The part I most want stroller families to hear
This is really why I'm writing about this café. The place is roomy enough to wheel the stroller straight in. No folding it up and wedging it in a corner. It just goes next to the table. The aisles are wide and there's an elevator, so changing floors is no problem. It was a weekday and there were still a lot of parents with strollers. When a baby cries, nobody looks up. Everyone's in the same boat. The nursing room is a big deal too. At a neighborhood café you'd be going back to the car or making do in a restroom. Those are the two things I worry about most when we go out with her, and both are covered. There are high chairs and family seating as well. At 120 days she's too small for a high chair, but we'll be back when she's bigger.

Bread and cakes are pick-your-own from the display. There's a huge selection. Enough to come just for the bread. Plenty of reviews say the bread is mostly gone by evening. If bread is the point, go during the day. If you have allergies, check with the staff before ordering.
'What we ordered'
🍕 Pizza, pasta and two drinks for lunch
Margherita Pizza + Shrimp Pepper Oil Pasta + Plum Ade + Condensed Milk Latte (iced)
Price: 24,000 + 27,000 + 10,000 + 9,500 = 70,500 won

It was lunchtime, so we got one pizza and one pasta and shared. We went with the Margherita. Café pizza, so I didn't expect much. It was properly good. The pasta was the Shrimp Pepper Oil Pasta. It has two chili marks on the board, but unless you really can't do spicy, you'll be fine. Plenty of shrimp in it too. For drinks, a plum ade and an iced condensed milk latte. My wife had the plum ade. Not too sweet, tangy, and it went well with the pasta. The condensed milk latte is sweet, which was exactly what a dad worn out from baby duty needed. We ate in turns while watching the baby, so it was a bit chaotic.
Bread and cakes
Price: marked individually on the display

We skipped the bread and cakes this time. After pizza and pasta there was no room left. We did a lap of the display, and the selection is huge. Not getting to try any is my biggest regret.
'One-line verdict'
✍ A big café you can bring a baby to
✔ Huge parking lot with EV charging. Easy for stroller families
✔ Nursing room and lots of space. We were comfortable with a 120-day-old
✔ Plenty of stroller parents even on a weekday, so a crying baby draws no stares
✔ A bit pricey. Lunch for two plus coffee is around 60,000–70,000 won
✔ But the food is good enough that it doesn't feel wasted. Not café food made as an afterthought
✔ A huge range of bread and cakes. Too full to try them this time, which I regret
✔ Weekends mean a full lot and a long order line, I'm told. With a baby, go on a weekday
✔ Hard to get to without a car. Taxi from Onam Station on Line 4
✔ Next time I'm coming back in the morning for just bread and coffee, no lunch
